After studying partly in Germany and partly in France, Christof Vièl began his training as a patent attorney in the family firm at Saarbrücken, Germany, and then in the IBM patent department close to Stuttgart. After a one year training period in Munich at the German patent and trade mark office, the Federal court of patents and the District court of Munich I, he passed his patent attorney examinations in 1993.
He has been a European patent attorney since 1993 and since this date he has been working at Vièl & Wieske in Saarbrücken. Since 1996 he has been a European trade mark and design attorney.
In parallel, he sat in 1998 the French qualifying examination to become a French patent attorney and founded Cabinet Vièl in Grosbliederstroff in the same year.
Since then, he has been working in the two firms which are around 10 kilometres apart.
In 2015, he qualified as a Belgian patent attorney.
Christof Vièl teaches industrial property at the Kurt Haertel Institute (at the Distance University of Hagen, Germany).
Christof Vièl has dual German and French citizenship. In addition to French and German he speaks English, Spanish and Modern Greek.
